Today, my set of hot stones finally arrived, and I couldn’t wait to try them. It’s the middle of winter here, and I’ve been craving warmth not just in my body, but deep within my nervous system and heart. So I rolled out my mat, heated the stones, and settled into a short 30-minute Yin practice.
The moment I placed the warm stones on my sacral and heart chakras, I could feel my body soften. A gentle warmth spread through my lower back, abdomen, and chest, places where I often hold tension and emotional tightness.
There’s something deeply soothing about combining hot stones with Yin, particularly when working with Water Element and winter poses. The Water Element relates to the kidneys, fear and the ability to trust and let go of control. The heat amplified the sense of grounding and quiet safety that Yin already offers.
Physically, the hot stones helped my muscles and fascia melt open with ease, allowing me to settle into the shapes without forcing. The warmth increased circulation, nourished the tissues and encouraged natural release. I could feel the tension dissolving, especially around my lower back and belly.
On an energetic level, placing stones on my sacral area created a comforting sense of safety and connection. On my heart, the heat softened protective layers, inviting more openness and emotional ease. It’s incredible how much the body holds, and how simple warmth can help us meet those places through sensing into them.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, warmth clears stagnant energy, supports circulation along the meridians, and restores flow. When paired with Yin, hot stones aren’t just added luxury; they become a tool for both physical and emotional nourishment.
As many of you know, my recent meditations are about grounding and earthing. As my stones are made of lava, that adds an extra layer to the theme I have been exploring over the past couple of months. It’s about harnessing and channelling the Earth's energy to nurture and warm up the bottom three chakras of belonging, accepting, and self-empowerment.
My upcoming event is about exactly this.
